Simple Steps to Close Fastag account of Used Car

how to close fastag account

The use of FASTag for instant payment processing has become a significant new approach in India. While FASTag speeds your trip, you can enjoy the convenience of not having to stop at toll booths.

The Government of India made it mandatory for all four-wheel vehicles to install a FASTag on them. This tag will help vehicles cross toll plazas without having to stop for cash payments, thanks to the use of an RFID (Radio Frequency Technology Device).

Learn more about FASTag and how to close FASTag account of used cars:

What is FASTag?

It is a device embedded with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology that produces an electronic tag to collect taxes and make toll payments faster while traveling between different cities/states in India.

FASTag is a Newedge toll collection system that reduces traffic and travel time by enabling immediate payment with the tag at dedicated Toll Plazas. It can be recharged as needed and bring real-time benefits like avoiding long queues at toll plazas and giving account alerts by SMS. You can also get cashback and e-wallets to pay for fuel and other necessities.

The FASTag is unique because it works without a network connection with its connecting mechanism. This smart card is equipped with a ‘Gate’ that connects to NFC devices using radio waves and emits an electromagnetic tag (EMT).

Whether it is used or a new vehicle FASTag is mandatory for all. However, you cannot use the same FASTag for two cars, and if you are selling your used car, you need to close the FASTag account.

Why is Closing FASTag Account Important?

You should get your FASTag deactivated if you sold or transferred your car, so the toll charges will not be deducted from the original account. The new buyer of your car cannot get a new FASTag while the old FASTag is open on the previous vehicle, so it makes it impossible to receive an active tag.
