The Grand Vitara is a fresh and unique take on the successful mid-size SUV formula. The key distinction is its pair of hybrid – mild and strong – powertrains. The former feels a little timid and lacks oomph, but it does have the option of AWD, which is not offered in this market outside of the Hyryder.

The powerful hybrid is the more appealing alternative, providing more punch while still giving amazing fuel efficiency – 27.97 km/l. Though it is more expensive than any competitor, it is worth considering if fuel efficiency is a top consideration.

7. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.0 AMT- 25.19km/l

People love the WagonR because of its frugal engine. The recent updates to this model include two petrol engine choices with 67 and 90 horsepower, respectively. The 1.0-litre engine also offers a CNG alternative with an excellent 34.05km/kg rating.

8. Hyundai Verna Diesel Manual – 25km/l

The only diesel mid-size sedan on this list is the Hyundai Verna. The Verna has appeal for customers who drive a lot because it was recently upgraded with a new 115hp, 1.5-liter diesel engine that is shared with the Creta. It’s also the engine of option for the WR-V, with the alternative being a sluggish 90hp, 1.2-litre petrol one.

14.Maruti Baleno AMT  – 22.94 kmpl

The 2022 Baleno, like its Toyota equivalent, is powered by a single 90hp, 1.2-litre DualJet K12N petrol engine. The new engine’s ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency with a manual gearbox is 22.35km/l, while the new AMT models are supposed to yield an even higher 22.94km/l.

When it comes to performance, the petrol engine is sleek and adequate in town, but it has a poor mid-range and must be pushed hard for overtaking. The light clutch and smooth manual transmission make driving a breeze.

15. Maruti Alto 800 – 22.05  kmpl

The smallest model of Maruti Suzuki is propelled by a thrifty 48 horsepower, 0.8-litre engine that has been certified by the ARAI to generate 22.05 km/l.
